ü Apply for or renew your health plan by December 15th to ensure coverage beginning on January 1st.
ü You may qualify for financial assistance to make coverage even more affordable.
ü Premium tax credits are available to many depending on your household size and income. For example, a family of four making about $98,000 would qualify for financial assistance.
ü You may also be eligible for a cost sharing reduction, which lowers out-of-pocket costs, like deductibles and copays.
ü Free enrollment assistance is available: Find local help on HealthCare.gov; call the Marketplace Call Center by dialing 1-800-318-2596; or visit CoverNJ.org.
ü If you are currently enrolled in a plan on HealthCare.gov, you MUST opt to renew your plan or choose another plan. If you don’t, you may be auto-enrolled in the same or a similar plan for 2018.
ü NJ has three insurers offering plans on the marketplace this year: Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield, AmeriHealth, and Oscar.
ü Having health coverage is the law. If you don’t have coverage from another source and miss the December 15th deadline, you could face a penalty during tax season.
ü If you miss the deadline, you may have to wait another year to get covered on the marketplace, unless you qualify for a special enrollment period.
